Intro to Barefoot Prep (101)
Time & Location
About the Event
***This workshop is not only for runners, but also for anyone who wants healthier feet!***
Wearing typical footwear your entire life often leads to some type of foot dysfunction. In fact, about 80% of people will suffer from foot pain in their lives. Furthermore, about 80% of runners suffer an injury every year, many of which could have been prevented with proper preparation and technique.
Begin to improve the mobility and stability of your neuro-musculoskeletal system in this short introductory course to barefoot walking and running. It begins from the bottom up! It is no coincidence that the concentration of nerve endings is higher in the feet than most of the rest of the body. We will highlight the fundamental mobility, strength, and neuromuscular patterning of the lower legs needed to excel at running. You will also learn the primary elements of running that are known to reduce the rate of injury. Additionally, we will take you through a series of primal movements, active mobility, strength and stability exercises to prepare you for minimalist or barefoot walking and running. Learn how to gradually integrate your new skills into your already existing routine, or how to begin a completely new routine, as you prepare your muscles for a more minimalist lifestyle!
Wear comfortable clothing / fitness attire and your favorite workout shoes. Minimalist/barefoot/ergonomic footwear is ideal, but we'll work with what you have. Come prepared with water, a towel, and a great attitude!
All ability levels welcome!
