Meet Dr. Chris Gumbs, pt
Physical Therapist & Running Specialist
Dr. Chris Gumbs, PT is driven by a keen interest in working with others in order to optimize their function. He was first exposed to physical therapy as a long-distance runner who suffered from severe hip pain which persisted even after treatment from a variety of healthcare practitioners. It wasn’t until after meeting a physical therapist who looked beyond the hip, and onwards to the spine for answers, that he began to get relief from his pain.
Dr. Gumbs now understands that you must consider the whole person when treating injury or dysfunction. This experience has motivated him to embody a search for balance and symmetry in life for himself and his patients.
Dr. Gumbs is a manual therapy trained therapist who treats all extremities and all ages. He has experience with athletes of all levels and is driven by a special interest in the deep core and its role in stabilizing the spine and preparing it for movement. His other professional interests include kinematic chain dysfunction, the influence of sub-optimal breathing patterns on posture, myofascial manipulation including such techniques as gua sha, dry needling, and cupping, and ultimately, restoring balance to the human body.
Together, he’d like to work towards your goals so that you may live life to its fullest potential – no matter the starting point. As a former captain of a division 1 cross-country & track team, he understands what it means to make a goal and set it in motion. Additionally, his experience in a variety of settings from nursing homes to private outpatient clinics has helped him understand how to meet almost anyone wherever they are in the rehabilitative process.
As a physical therapist, his goal is to give you the treatments and the tools you need in order to enjoy an active lifestyle. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, biking, practicing yoga and acro yoga, slacklining, hiking, climbing, live music, and trying anything new!
