Meet Dr. Gumbs
Physical Therapist & Running Specialist
Chris grew up in the greater Seattle area and he started long-distance running at a young age. He ran countless miles exploring thick emerald forests and his own limits. Not for many years and thousands of miles later would he begin to suffer from severe hip pain. It wore on him through half his collegiate career and beyond—even after working with a variety of medical professionals and trainers. It persisted for so long, he thought the pain might never go away.
That's why he's forever grateful to the physical therapists who looked beyond the hip and really saw him as a whole person. Low back dysfunction was identified as the main problem, and the treatment program was effective in finally ridding him of the hip pain. Dr. Gumbs now understands that you must consider the whole person when treating injury or dysfunction. This experience has motivated him to search for balance and symmetry in life for himself and his patients.
Dr. Gumbs is an orthopedic manual physical therapist with experience treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. He enjoys working with individuals of all levels who want to lead active lives, and he especially likes working with athletes, adventurers, artists, and anyone with a passion for movement. He's particularly interested in the deep core and its role in stabilizing the spine and preparing it for movement. He's also keenly interested in kinematic chain dysfunction, the influence of sub-optimal breathing patterns on posture, myofascial manipulation including techniques such as gua sha, dry needling, and cupping, and ultimately, restoring balance to the human body.
He’d like to work together with you towards your goals so that you may live life to its fullest potential —no matter the starting point. As a former division 1 cross-country & track team captain, he understands what it means to make a goal and set it in motion. Additionally, his experience in a variety of settings from nursing homes to private outpatient clinics has helped him understand how to meet almost anyone wherever they are in the rehabilitative process.
As a physical therapist, his goal is to give you the treatments and the tools you need in order to enjoy an active lifestyle. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, biking, yoga, acro yoga, slacklining, hiking, climbing, live music, and trying anything new!
