Meet Dr. Gumbs
Physical Therapist & Running Specialist
Chris grew up in the greater Seattle area and he started long-distance running at a young age. He ran countless miles exploring thick emerald forests and his own limits. Not for many years and thousands of miles later would he begin to suffer from severe hip pain. It wore on him through half his collegiate career and beyond—even after working with a variety of medical professionals and trainers. It persisted for so long, he thought the pain might never go away.
That's why he's forever grateful to the physical therapists who looked beyond the hip and really saw him as a whole person. Low back dysfunction was identified as the main problem, and the treatment program was effective in finally ridding him of the hip pain. From that point forward he understood that you must consider the whole person when treating injury or dysfunction. This experience has motivated him to search for balance and symmetry in life for himself and his patients.
Dr. Gumbs is an orthopedic manual physical therapist with experience treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. He enjoys working with individuals of all levels who want to lead active lives, and he especially likes working with athletes, adventurers, artists, and anyone with a passion for movement. He's particularly interested in the deep core and its role in stabilizing the spine and preparing it for movement. He's also keenly interested in kinematic chain dysfunction, the influence of sub-optimal breathing patterns on posture, myofascial manipulation including techniques such as gua sha, dry needling, and cupping, and ultimately, restoring balance to the human body.
He’d like to work together with you towards your goals so that you may live life to its fullest potential—no matter the starting point. As a former division 1 cross-country & track team captain, he understands what it means to make a goal and set it in motion. Additionally, his experience in a variety of settings from nursing homes to private outpatient clinics has helped him understand how to meet almost anyone wherever they are in the rehabilitative process.
As a physical therapist, his goal is to give you the treatments and the tools you need in order to enjoy an active lifestyle. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, biking, yoga, acro yoga, slacklining, hiking, climbing, live music, and trying anything new!

What our patients are saying...
Started treatment for a Lifting-induced back injury and not only has it been helped but also learning and making huge strides in mobility and strength all around. Highly recommend this holistic approach which includes manual therapy, needling, stretching, neuromuscular connection and exercise. I’m coming back for more.
I've had stress fractures and lower back pain over the years and Dr. Gumbs was the first physical therapist I've had who took a look at how I moved and worked towards fixing the root cause of my pain, rather than more intrusive interventions like shots. I'm running faster and lifting heavier than before, and that's thanks to Dr. Gumbs. Couldn't recommend more!
I was struggling with foot and lower leg issues for nearly a year before I found relief working with Dr. Gumbs at LatitudePT. Previous physical therapists provided minor relief, but appointments were short and treatment was limited to the directly affected area. Dr. Gumbs spent extensive time reviewing my condition and took a whole body approach to my treatment. Due to social distancing all of my appointments have been through Telehealth (video conferencing) and I'm amazed at how effective they have been. This method has taught me to take care of my own body which will be beneficial to my long term health. Overall, I'm very happy with my treatment and the results. Additionally, I'd say the value of the treatment from LatitudePT significantly exceeds any similar treatment I've received in the past.
“Dr. Gumbs is amazing! I have had back pain for 10+ years and had just about given up hope that I would never be able to fix it until today! In just one session, Dr. Gumbs relieved my pain and discomfort and provided me with a clear understanding of why I was experiencing back pain. I have never been so happy! If you’re in any kind of pain and want to get your life back, then go see Dr. Gumbs!”
Chris is a truly gifted Physical Therapist! He is very intuitive and sees where the challenge is truly coming from. He treats the body as a whole not just a part. I am thoroughly impressed with my experiences with Chris. He is very talented with dry needling, cupping and manual therapy as well!
“Dr. Gumbs is so knowledgeable about the human body and yet so personable to work with. His dry needling sessions provided immediate pain relief and his “homework” exercises with videos were helpful and easy to follow. I highly recommend his therapy services.”
Chris helped me in so many ways! I don't have any back pain any more and my knees have never felt better! Thank you so much!
“Dr. Gumbs is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and encouraging. His passion for helping people shines through in his work. I have had a lot of physical therapy in my life, and Dr. Gumbs is by far one of the top physical therapists I’ve met. I still walk taller, straighter, and have less pain more than a year and a half later! He is so dedicated! Give him a chance to help you!”
After suffering with chronic back pain for three years, Chris was able to heal me in 4-months. I was down to walking as my only form of exercise. After 4-months I've started an incremental running regimen, lifting some weights, and bike riding. I can't recommend his services enough and have referred many people his way. I hope this review helps to spur people with pain to seek his help. You won't regret it!
“Dr. Gumbs is amazing. He is really good at what he does. He is kind, compassionate, and truly cares. Dry needling is not fun, but it is working for me. I tried everything and finally found Dr. Gumbs. I wish I had known about him sooner!”
I went to Latitude to prep for a half marathon after struggling with some plantar fasciitis and knee pain. Chris found the source of pain, gave me great and effective exercises to cross train and support my runs, and did some much needed Dry Needling. I found the services at Latitude to be excellent. My half was a PR that year because of Chris at Latitude!
“Not only is Dr. Gumbs knowledgeable and skilled in his discipline, but he is also extremely friendly and professional. I really appreciate the time he takes to listen to me, as well as to explain exactly what is going on with my body and talk me through the process of what he’s doing. Personally, I love dry needling. I find it fascinating and I enjoy seeing and feeling the wonderful things it does for my active body.”
Went in for a consultation and Chris was amazing at analyzing what was going on and finding exercises to get my body working at its best. Really excited to continue working with him.
“Dr. Gumbs is fantastic at what he does, especially needling! It may not be comfortable to sit through but the effects truly have been amazing! I would recommend Dr. Gumbs and his practices to anyone and everyone needing physical therapy! He is very caring, kind, and invested in his clients to make sure that they feel comfortable to make the progress needed to return to full physical function! He’s fantastic! Can’t say enough!”
Dr. Chris Gumbs is really knowledgeable about physiotherapy and passionate about helping people, and it shows through his work. Prior to seeing him, I suffered from headaches for 25 years that were diagnosed by a neurologist as migraines. Despite trying various supplements, diet adjustments, preventative medications, and treatments, as well as avoiding anything I suspected could possibly be a headache trigger (caffeine, citrus fruits, perfume, ponytails!), I was getting headaches multiple times per week, and I relied on prescription rescue medication in order to function. After a couple months of physiotherapy at Latitude PT, I am thrilled to find that my headaches have drastically declined in both frequency and severity. I rarely have any pain now, and I have only taken medication twice total in the last 90 days! Chris uses a holistic approach that focuses on whole-body healing instead of just on treating symptoms, and it has definitely changed my life. If you are feeling discouraged by pain or limited performance, I highly recommend scheduling an appointment at Latitude Physiotherapy so that you can experience your own success story!
“Dr. Gumbs is a delight to work with. I was initially wary of “dry needling” but after several treatments, my chronic back pain and shoulder pain have improved tremendously. Working in conjunction with chiropractic care and pilates instruction has changed my quality of life immensely. Going to Dr. Gumbs for treatments and the home exercise program he provided were what gave me that final push I needed toward recovery.”
Chris is an exceptional therapist and works hard to find solutions that work for you. I was dealing with chronic hip pain. After two sessions with Chris I've noticed considerable gains. Thanks you, Chris!
Chris is an incredibly knowledgeable, intuitive and highly trained physiotherapist. I went in with neck and shoulder pain and was very impressed by his methodical approach to determining the root cause of the issue and then addressing it effectively. I highly recommend Chris to help restore full function and mobility!
“I appreciated Dr. Gumbs' thorough knowledge of anatomy and patterns that tend to form within the body. I always learned something new each time I saw him. His energy and demeanor were welcoming from the first session and I felt great after every treatment.”
Chris is awesome, and has helped me address several muscular issues that have kept me sidelined. I'd highly recommend you work with him.
“At age 67, I had long-term habits that needed correction. Dr. Gumbs was very proficient and patient with his explanations and guidance. I left each treatment with an improved function for posture, balance, and walking. Dr. Gumbs inspired me to commit to active and healthy goals. I will always be grateful for the care that Dr. Gumbs provided.”
“He taught me more today about my body and what muscles need to activate in order to heal, than one month of PT at another office. If you are looking for the best, Dr. Gumbs is it. Awesome bedside manner and a beautiful soul. Call him.”
“Before I saw Dr. Gumbs for physical therapy my shoulder was in a lot of pain and it was affecting me every day. After just the first session I could feel a huge difference and I was in significantly less pain. Thanks, Dr. Gumbs for the honest and quality work you do and for the happy vibes you always send out.”
“Dr. Gumbs is outside-the-box knowledgeable about innovative approaches to healing your body. He takes your issues seriously and goes deep to provide faster long-term relief for your muscle/tendon pain.”
“Life-changing. After struggling with back and leg issues for years and trying every option under the sun, Dr. Gumbs was finally able to get to the root of the problem through treatment and education. Beyond just the results, he also made me feel comfortable throughout the journey and is a great guy to get to know.”
Each time I had gone to Dr. Gumbs I have received excellent resolve from his Therapeutic treatment and I will continue with his treatments. He really cares about his patients.
“Dr. Gumbs is amazing! I have suffered from chronic migraines for the past 15 years, and LatitudePT has been simply life-changing with fixing my head, neck, and shoulder/upper back pain. It’s not like larger physical therapy practices where someone tells you to do an exercise and then goes off and helps another patient. This is one-on-one and it’s invaluable.”
“I can’t say enough about his approach, addressing the full kinetic chain and delivering immediate relief of chronic and years-long issues through dry needling. I’ve never experienced anything like it and I’ve been to dozens of physical therapists. He has treated my year’s old issues involving elbows, hips, and shoulders. He has also addressed postural and breathing patterns. It’s a holistic approach. I highly recommend Dr. Gumbs to any highly active friends with chronic injuries unresponsive to other treatment modalities.”
I have learned so much and am getting stronger by the day.
I do recreational acrobatics as well as a lot of cycling and rock climbing. Between these hobbies, I've found myself with a wide array of weird muscle strains. Dr. Chris is an excellent practitioner and applies a wide variety of methods to help you feel better. In addition to that, he walks you through the necessary exercises you need to do to stay feeling better and not have to keep coming back! It's also worth mentioning: Dry needling has become very popular over the past year or so. I've never worked with anyone who understands or applies that technique better than Dr. Chris.
Chris is a remarkable Physical Therapist who will provide care that is hard to find in the current healthcare system. He takes the time to evaluate you and identify your true needs. He's incredibly knowledgeable and quick on his feet. This was a relief as I had gotten burnt out with therapists who didn't seem to know what to do with me or didn't seem to have the time to figure it out. Chris is truly a gem! He is caring, pays attention to details, listens to what you have to say and doesn't try to rush the process. If you are ready to find TRUE solutions to your musculoskeletal issues, definitely put in the time and effort to pay him a visit. You'll thank me (and more so him!)!!
